St. Johnsbury - While the presidential candidates have been zig-zagging across the country for months, local political parties are just starting to get their gears turning. The St. Johnsbury Democratic Committee held it's bi-annual reorganizational meeting at the St. Johnsbury Welcome Center last night.
LYNDONVILLE - Mother’s Day is usually a special day for most mothers to spend with their children. This Sunday, a few residents in Lyndon are a little busy getting ready for the big day.
VERMONT - With warmer weather returning, ticks will also be returning from their natural habitats. As ticks start to return, so does the threat of Lyme Disease which can be transmitted to both people and animals through deer ticks.
VERMONT- With spring finally being sprung and the temperatures rising, the dangers of a brush fire are increased. The added wind and seasonal drying out of trees and grass makes up for a recipe for disaster.

VERMONT- Over 70 schools in Vermont are participating in the Safe Routes to School program, a state-wide program who's main goal is to ensure child safety when it comes to walking or biking to school.
VERMONT- The gluten-free marketplace has been on the up-and-up over the last few years. From Weight-watchers, to Atkins, to even low-carb diets... it seems as if nothing has hit society quite like the gluten-free trend. The new fad has nearly no medical reasoning behind it, but the diet is beginning to shape the way restaurants and grocery stores stock up.
VERMONT- This has been, and continues to be, a great week for sports. The sun is shining, and the local high school teams are getting their game on. Here is a wrap of yesterday's sports, and what's coming up today.
VICTORY- It has been said that it all started with the shooting of two wayward pigs- the fued that has lingered in the small Northeast Kingdom town of Victory since the 1930's. Now, things have gotten so out of hand, the town needs law enforcement present at every public gathering.
VERMONT- The bill to implement a tax on sugar-sweetened beverages is back in the state house for the fourth time. However, this time, the bill seems to be going further than it has before.
ST. JOHNSBURY- Spring is finally here and so are the road projects that are creating headaches for some drivers and business owners.
NORTHEAST KINGDOM- Temperatures are expected to reach close to 80 degrees this week, which means Summer is fast approaching. As a result, it's important to make sure your car is well maintained before taking summer vacations.
VERMONT- Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders will be running for president in the upcoming 2016 elections. He will be running for the Democratic Party, even though he calls himself a Democratic Socialist.
ST. JOHNSBURY- A program that is fairly new is gaining a lot of attention from retired nurses, retired social workers, grandfathers, and grandmothers. In January, Pat Forest of the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital was contacted by a woman who asked if they had a baby cuddling program and if she could be a baby cuddler. Unfortunately, no program existed.
BARNET- Girls on the Run is a national organization that has been making headway at local Vermont schools. According to it’s website, Girls on the Run “is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.”
NORTHEAST KINGDOM- Trek Bicycle Corporation, a Waterloo, Wisconsin company, has annouced that they will be recalling close to one million bicycles. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, about 900,000 bikes were recalled in the United States and 98,000 were recalled in Canada.
SUTTON - 72-year-old Kenneth Hayes of Kirby, VT is the new Sutton School Interim Principal. The Sutton school board decided to hire him after a special school board meeting on Wednesday afternoon.
ST. JOHNSBURY - Members of the Northeast Kingdom community are discussing the creation of the Vermont Creative Network, designed by the Vermont Arts Council.According to their website, The Vermont Arts Council is the only designated state arts agency in the United States that is an independent, non-profit organization. Their mission is to preserve the arts in Vermont Communities.
ST. JOHNSBURY- Hunting here began well before Vermont became a state. With that, hunter regulation and safety courses have started shooting up.
ST. JOHNSBURY- The Upper Valley Habitat for Humanity’s primary goal is to make sure each and every person has a decent place to live. The organization builds home’s for families that are in need and the only cost families must take care of is the cost of materials.
AROUND THE NEK - The real estate markets across the United States are picking up. However, the Northeast Kingdom is not showing the same signs. According to Maurice Chaloux of Parkway Realty, Caledonia County is currently seeing an increase in foreclosures after the housing collapse in 2008.
VERMONT- Across the country, colleges and institutions have seen a decline in student enrollment. Nationally, this year's freshman enrollment numbers compared to last year's fall enrollment numbers have declined about 1.5%, according to a report by the National Student Clearinghouse.
VERMONT-Vermont is now attempting to regulate the way rent-to-own companies, such as Rent-A-Center or Aaron's, conduct business. These stores lease new and used furniture plus electronics on a monthly basis, but their business ethics have been called into question.
ST. JOHNSBURY- With temperatures predicted to be in the 60's for most of the week, the snow is melting and summer paving plans are coming to the surface. The Vermont Agency of Transportation annouced several road projects that will be occuring throughout the state
ST. Johnsbury-Jonathan M. Stuart, a 17-year-old Saint Johnsbury resident, appeared in Caledonia Superior Court on April 2nd after being arrested for the burglaries of the Big Apple Convenience Store on both March 3rd and March 23rd.
