Wisconsin Company Recalls Bikes

trekNORTHEAST KINGDOM- Trek Bicycle Corporation, a Waterloo, Wisconsin company, has annouced that they will be recalling close to one million bicycles. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, about 900,000 bikes were recalled in the United States and 98,000 were recalled in Canada.

According to the safety recall notice, "If the quick release is improperly adjusted or left open on a bicycle, the quick release can become caught in the front disc brake assembly.  If this happens, the front wheel could separate or come to a sudden stop and the rider could lose control of the bicycle."

Trek Bicycle Corporation reports three instances where this occurred resulting in injury. In two of the cases, non-life threatening injuries were sustained, but in one case, a person became paralyzed.

Trek says that if you're the owner of one of the recalled bicycles, you can get a free quick release replacement as well as a 20 dollar coupon to use towards any Bontrager product. The coupon expires on December, 31, 2015.
