EAST ALBANY-The farming industry has never been an easy one, and that's why more farmers, like John and Jane Nielsen who own the Log Cabin Farm in East Albany, are finding unique ways to make extra money.

This week the National Weather Service in Burlington is holding their annual flood awareness week, which is a week meant to educate people on the threat of flooding here in the Northeast.

Around The Northeast Kingdom- For years, the population of bees has been on the decline. Now the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife is trying to fix it.
AROUND THE NEK- Several consumers report finding small pieces of glass in their food has resulted in a voluntary recall by Nestle USA. No injuries have been reported, but Nestle USA says they believe the source of glass is from the spinach in DiGiorno, Lean Cuisine, and Stouffer's products.

AROUND THE NEK- The parent company that owns Corona Extra issued a voluntary recall of their 12 and 18 pack glass bottles after they found bits of glass in the beer. According to Constellation Brands Beer Division, select 12 and 18 packs of Corona Extra may contain small particles of glass.
NORTHEAST KINGDOM-With the presidential election heating up, Vermonters will also elect a new governor come November. As of right now there are four candidates running for the Governor’s seat. They include Bruce Lisman, Phil Scott, Sue Minter, and Matt Dunne.
Around the NEK -- Democracy in Vermont was strong during the first week of March.
Residents from across the state stormed their town halls to cast votes during Town Meeting Day. In the Northeast Kingdom, for instance, -- where even small towns see big participation – education weighed heavy on the minds of voters. In such towns as Peacham, new members of the school board were elected, and in St. Johnsbury, a drop in enrollment at the St. Johnsbury School was cause for a budget uptick.

GROTON - Reporter Tyler Simpson was on scene and reports that the Vermont State Police SCUBA team located the body of Groton Volunteer Firefighter Jordan Smith Saturday morning. Smith was last seen at a campsite with his friends.

Around The Northeast Kingdom- If you drive thought Vermont you will see a lot of hill-top wind farms and fields with solar panels. The movement for green and renewable energy is strong, but the returns are raising some questions.
Vermont- After a very unseasonably warm Vermont Winter, Vermont maple syrup producers are optimistic as there season begins.
The ideal conditions for sap to run is when the temperature dips below the freezing mark at night, and then rises to the 40’s and 50’s during the day. Although this winter has been warm, Maple syrup producers say the weather is impeccable for their job.

GREENSBORO- The Northeast Kingdom, known for years for its beautiful fall scenery and harsh winter months, can now lay claim to another fame. According to Ratebeer, Hill Farmstead Brewery based out of Greensboro has been named the best place in the world to get a beer for three out of the last four years.

AROUND THE NEK- The mandatory labeling of genetically modified organisms has been discussed for awhile in the state. Now Act 120 is set to take affect July 1st possibly having a larger impact on Vermonters than what meets the eye.

Around the Northeast Kingdom - The first day of March also marks the first day of a new stage of the presidential election cycle.
JOHNSON- The Vermont State College Board of Trustees voted this weekend to increase tuition at many of the state colleges.
For the past ten years, the board raised tuition members of the board say they thought the colleges were financially in a good place. The chancellor, leadership and college presidents said that it was untenable for next year.
NORTHEAST KINGDOM – Governor Peter Shumlin is continuing his work on bettering the environment in the Green Mountain State. On Tuesday, Shumlin spoke at the state house continuing his push to divest from coal and other fossil fuels.
LYNDON- December through February is historically the time when many start sniffling, coughing, and sneezing. However, you might be surprised where germs like to hide, especially in schools.
LYNDONVILLE - In Lyndonville Bag Balm has served the Northeast Kingdom for over one hundred years. Now the company has started the next chapter in it's history, which is to reach the rest of the country. The expansion is because of their new marketing scheme and addition of more products.
NORTHEAST KINGDOM- The lack of snow and freezing temperatures has left a lot of residents in the Northeast Kingdom happy this winter season. However, not all are excited about the change to warmer weather, including those who rely on the cold to bring steady income to their businesses.
LYNDONVILLE - Everyone may be celebrating Valentine's Day on the 14th, but one local organization is celebrating the day before.The organization, Helping Other People Everyday, is hosting their second annual Sweetheart Ball Saturday, February 13th to celebrate the holiday and a good cause.
Lyndon- Members of the Experimental Aircraft Association talk about the importances of being safe when flying. The Monday night meeting was the first of three flight safety classes where they also speak about some of the myths concerning flying.
Peacham-A student at Peacham Elementary School held a fundraiser to raise money for the arts and music program in Nicaragua. Willa Kantrowitz, a third grader at the school, goes down to Nicaragua every three years for an opportunity that most students don't get.
