AROUND THE NEK- As the cold weather approaches, high school soccer playoffs start to heat up. 60 games were played between Tuesday and Wednesday around Vermont for the first round of playoffs.
Some teams are looking at deeper playoff runs, while others are starting to talk about what they have to improve on for next season.
AROUND THE NEK- Vermont's unemployment rate has taken a slight leap again this September. For the fourth consecutive month the unemployment rate has risen three tenths of a percent.

NORTHEAST KINGDOM - As results of the murder trial of Allen Prue were announced in Burlington this morning, residents in the Northeast Kingdom were quick to react.

BURLINGTON- Closing arguments started this morning in the Allen Prue trial. Judge Bent said the jury is prepared to deliberate into the night but has considered holding things off until tomorrow morning.

BURLINGTON- Today the trial of Allen Prue continued today with the prosecution bringing up Patricia Prue's internet search history. Accordring to a Vermont State Police Digital Forensics expert, Patricia Prue searched for how to kidnap, rape someone, and get away with it.
NORTHEAST KINGDOM - Vermont election season is in full swing and the last few campaign finance reports are being filed.
NORTHEAST KINGDOM- The Vermont Working Lands Enterprise Initiative is going into its third year with a a small funding boost from the state.
Around the NEK -- A security breach at AT&T may have compromised the personal information of some Vermont residents. The breach occurred in August and around 1,600 customers were affected by this.
VERMONT- October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the United States. The idea stemmed from The Day of Unity, a celebration created in 1981 by The National Coalition Agency. The holiday, which is now celebrated on the first Monday of every October, was created to connect victims and advocates of domestic violence.
ST. JOHNSBURY-Catamount Arts was alive with the sound of Vermont History being sung on October 2. Linda Radt-Key was the star of the show.
The state of Vermont has an extensive amount of history and according to Radt-Key the best way to learn about something is through song.

AROUND THE NORTHEAST KINGDOM - A Staten Island woman is in custody after attempting to make a purchase with a counterfeit one hundred-dollar bill. Lyndonville police are still searching for another suspect.
AROUND THE NEK - Local farmers have a new option to protect their profits from the federal government; however, many have yet to sign up for the program. The Vermont Farm Service Agency will be holding informational meetings in the upcoming month to help educate farmers about the benefits of this program.
LITTLETON- Shaws supermarket has announced an unlawful intrusion in an attempt to steal credit and debit card payment information.
NORTHEAST KINGDOM- There are many voters registered to vote in the United States, but when it comes to election time they are not actually living on United States soil.
NORTHEAST KINGDOM - On Sunday a small group of volunteers met up at the Groton Town Garage to participate in the Connecticut River Source to Sea clean-up.
“It means cleaning up our rivers and keeping Vermont beautiful,” said Roy Shiff, Water Resource Engineer.
LYNDONVILLE- The Northeast Kingdom Town Waste Management District in Lyndonville is improving how they collect recyclables of all kinds. For a few years, the Waste Department has hosted an event that runs from the spring to the start of fall that allows people to recycle hazardous household waste.
NORTHEAST KINGDOM- Construction around St. Johnsbury and Lyndonville is projected to wrap up in the next month.
PEACHAM- Due to high speeds and inatentaive drivers, the town of Peacham has decided to extend the school zone on Main St. by the elementary school.
VERMONT- The Shumlin administration has announced that the Vermonet Health Connect Website will be temporarily shut down so Optum, the new Vermont Health Connect Vendor, can improve the website.
