Shaw's Breach

shawsLITTLETON- Shaws supermarket has announced an unlawful intrusion in an attempt to steal credit and debit card payment information.

 

The company stated, "Based on the information we currently know, it is not believed that any customer data was stolen. However, out of an abundance of caution, if you used your credit or debit card in a potentially affected store between June 22, 2014 and July 17, 2014, or between August 27, 2014 and September 21, 2014, you should monitor your credit and debit card account, as well as promptly contact the bank that issued your payment card if you see suspicious activity.Stores in the following states were potentially affected: Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont."


This intrusion is one of many to recently hit big box stores and supermarkets like Target, Home Depot, and Wal-Mart. The company thinks its highly unlikely that anyone's identify is at risk of being stolen.

According to the companies IT services, the criminal intruder installed different Malware on payment credit card systems. Shaw's is also advising customers to monitor their credit and debit Card accounts, and if you notice anything suspicious, call your credit card company.

The malware may have captured data including account numbers, card expiration date, and the names of the cardholders in the late August or early Sempterber. This would affect its stores such as Shaw's and Star Markets, Albertsons stores, Acme Markets stores, and Jewel-Osco stores over 20 states.

Supervalu the parent company of shaws has around 1,800 independent stores, 1,325 stores under the Save-A-Lot name and has 190 retail grocery stores under five different brand names, including the Cub Foods.

Supervalu Inc. believed that the malware was only able to capture credit data at four Cub Foods located in Minnesota.
