AROUND THE NORTHEAST KINGDOM - A Staten Island woman is in custody after attempting to make a purchase with a counterfeit one hundred-dollar bill. Lyndonville police are still searching for another suspect.
Barbara Sarpong, 38, attempted to make a purchase with the counterfeit bill at Dollar General in Lyndonville late yesterday morning. In an attempt to leave the parking lot, Sarpong backed into the front fender of Lyndonville Police Chief Jack Harris. Sarpong was then taken into custody.
Upon further investigation in partnership with the Secret Service, it was discovered that Sarpong and Adam Fisher, 37, also of Staten Island, were staying at the Lyn-Burke Motel. Fisher used another counterfeit bill, with the same serial number, to rent the room.
Counterfeit fifty-dollar and one hundred-dollar bills have made their way to St. Johnsbury as well. According to Chief Harris, counterfeit bills have been used at the Colonnade Inn, McDonald's, and Kentucy Fried Chicken.
Sarpong has been processed for counterfeiting, and was held on $5,000 bond.
Authorities continue to search for Adam Fisher. Anyone with any information should contact the Lyndonville Police Department at (802) 626-1271.
