Allen Prue: Closing Statements

prues in courtBURLINGTON- Closing arguments started this morning in the Allen Prue trial. Judge Bent said the jury is prepared to deliberate into the night but has considered holding things off until tomorrow morning.

This morning, Caledonia County State Attorney Lisa Warren started closing arguments by showing the courtroom a picture of Melissa Jenkins and then showcased evidence from the abduction scene. Warren showed one shoe (which belonged to Jenkins) as well a hat identified as Allen Prue's. Warren then aired a replay of a confession where Allen Prue apologizes. "I'm just terribly sorry I did this to you Melissa [Jenkins]."

Yesterday, the prosecution wrapped things up with a final witness who said he saw two men in a black pickup near Cumerford boat access before the murder took place.

Once the defense took the stand, Defense Attorney Bob Katims stated the prosectution failed to show enough evidence to prove that the murder was premeditated. Katims also stated the evidence may prove that sexual assault was planned, but not murder.

Judge Bent then allowed former inmate Amy Beede, who spent time with Patricia Prue while in custody to take the stand.  Beede said Patricia told her she strangled Melissa Jenkins while Allen drove away.

In the afternoon hours on Monday, the defense brought in a psychologist to testify.  The testimony stated the police used certain techniques while interrogating Prue and claims he was coerced.

Allen Prue elected to not testify. After the defense rested their case, the state did not rebuttal.
