Hunters Meet for Breakfast at the Crack of Dawn

hunterBURKE - People from across the Northeast Kingdom flocked to bazaars and luncheons all across the area this weekend.  The Burke meal site volunteers have spent months preparing for one of their biggest events of the year, and the board members and volunteers were up before the sun to prepare for the first part of their event, which was their Hunters Breakfast.

Burke's Snow Guns A-Blazin'

SnowmakingBURKE - Burke fired up their recently purchased snowmaking system for the first time this season Tuesday evening. The million dollar upgrade to the equipment includes new snow guns as well as a 800 horsepower electric compressor they have named "Marge."

Ski Swaps Helps Ease an Expensive Sport

ski swapBURKE - Avid skiers and riders can tell you that skiing is a very expensive sport, especially when it comes to buying equipment. Ski swaps are a great way for not only vendors to sell their equipment and clothing, but also for skiers and riders who want to get rid of skis and boots that may not fit them anymore. The Burke Town Parent Teacher Organization(P.T.O.)  held their own ski swap this past weekend that benefited the P.T.O itself as well as the Village Sport Shop.

BURKE - As the leaves change and the nights get colder, more and more people start asking, "When will winter start?" The employees at East Burke Sports are wondering the same thing. Now is the time of year when East Burke Sports, and many other sports stores, start switching out pedals for poles and make the transition from bike shop to ski shop. As ski season opens, the stores are hoping to see the same success they had during bike season.

More Snow for Burke

Snow MakingEAST BURKE - Burke Mountain is taking new ownership to a whole new level with new snow guns coming to the kingdom.

 

On Tuesday crews were working on the 140 new snow guns that arrived late last week. The snow guns came to Burke from Wachusett Mountain in Massachusetts and are being prepared for installation.

Update on Body Found in Concord

vsp search warrentCONCORD- The body of a male who was found in Concord on Sunday has been identified as Michael Pimental, 37 of Waterford. Today, Vermont State Police conducted a search warrant at his home at 2394 Duck Road.

concCONCORD - Another Town Meeting Day has come and gone for Concord. Overall, residents showed support for the 18 articles up for vote, as each appropriation was approved. Voters have agreed to raise a total of $787,053 dollars in taxes for all of the general expenses of the town.

concordCONCORD - For the first time in many years, Concord residents are not voting on a school budget on Town Meeting Day. Now that Concord has joined the Kingdom East District, residents from all eight unified towns will vote on their newly designed school budget on April 10th.

concordCONCORD - On town meeting day, residents of Concord will be seeing a two percent increase in this year's town budget, resulting in a total of $787,053 dollars. This is a change that the select-board chairman, George Morehouse, credits to standard operating costs.

Concord School Ice Rink

ICE RINK BYRNES

CONCORD -The Concord School now has an ice rink open to the public for all to use. The rink was built on top on the current tennis court about a month ago, and is will be open for the winter months. Physical Education and Athletic Director, Brandon Davis, thought it would be a great way to get the kids active during the winter time. The project was a collaboration between the Concord School, The Concord Fire department, and a few parents.

Concord School Farm to School

Concord School was one of the 15 schools in Vermont that had received this grant. Sid's Pantry is located at the school and has also donated ten-thousand dollars for the program as well. The students learn how to do these everyday essentials in a specific room by the Sid's Pantry.
