EAST BURKE - Youth Turkey Hunting weekend is right around the corner, and at Rick's Gun Shop, guns and hunting tags have been flying off the shelf.

This weekend is honored all around the state; the point of the weekend is for kids to get a better shot at hitting a turkey, before adult hunters get the chance to scare them off.  It's actually illegal for adults to begin hunting this weekend. There are certain rules for this upcoming weekend.  Each child must be accompanied by an adult who has a hunting license; and they must have a weekend hunting tag on them, and also a season tag.

To prepare for the upcoming hunting season, Rick's Gun Shop hosted a workshop to teach adults and children the proper way to use a gun. Children also get a little extra help every Sunday night throughout the winter, where they can go to the gun shop and practice target shooting at no cost. They are able to choose a bow and arrow, or a pellet gun when they practice.
