ST. JOHNSBURY— Public safety was among the bigger issues for the town of St. Johnsbury for Town Meeting Day in 2018. The voters of the town faced a non-binding decision on whether funding for CALEX Ambulance would be removed as an appropriation going forward and made into a contracted item with the town.
ST. JOHNSBURY- Voters in the town of St. Johnsbury are being asked to approve a nearly one-million dollar increase in the school budget at this year's Town Meeting Day. The increase is due in part to a miscalculation in how many students will be attending Saint Johnsbury Academy in the Fall of 2018 and the 42 unanticipated student tuitions they've had to pay out that have resulted in $710,000 in expenditures.

ST. JOHNSBURY - RecFit in St. Johnsbury had an unexpected visitor on Saturday morning. At about 11:30, a deer broke through a window on the first floor and ran into the lobby area of the gym.

ST. JOHNSBURY - We are well above normal temperatures in Vermont for the month of February. Temperatures are a good fifteen degrees above average for this time of year. This can be detrimental to the climate and wildlife for the area, not to mention the intense flood warnings and slippery road conditions that follow a massive snow melt. Luckily, road maintenance has been out clearing the ice and snow, as well as creating runoff pathways so water can find the storm drains.

ST. JOHNSBURY—The town of St. Johnsbury is proposing an increase to the general fund budget as well as the highway budget that will be put up to the voters on town meeting day. The increase in the general budget is due to the town adopting a new housing program.
On the third Thursday of every month, locals line up inside Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital; but not for treatment. Instead, they wait for fresh, local produce.

According to organ donation statistics from the U.S. Department of Health Human Services, over 116 thousand men, women, and children and children are on the national transplant watiting list, as of August 2017. As you can imagine, that is a very high number.

ST. JOHNSBURY - January marked the 150'th year anniversary of the Universalist Unitarian Congregation of St. Johnsbury. Brendan Hadash, who served as the reverend for 19 years, commemorated the church's founding by portraying Reverend Tracy R. Spencer in a sermon. Spencer was the first minister to preach in St. Johnsbury, when the church opened in 1868.
ST. JOHNSBURY - The Kingdom Animal Shelter hosted a fundraiser on Saturday the 10th to raise money for the unowned animals of the Northeast Kingdom. While the Shelter sees many visitors both human and furry alike, the hardship of staying with the upkeep of running a shelter can be a very daunting task.
ST. JOHNSBURY- For the second year in a row, there will be a summer concert series at Dog Mountain. Catamount Arts was recently awarded the Levitt Amp Grant, which is used to bring free, live music to small cities. The town of St. Johnsbury was one of just 15 cities in the US selected for the grant.
ST. JOHNSBURY- The Hilltopper Restaurant is back in business as the St. Johnsbury Academy students are ready to develop their skills with working in a professional workplace.
ST. JOHNSBURY - St. Johnsbury Superintendent, Dr. Margaret Ranny Bledsoe, announced at the school board meeting on Monday night that she will be resigning effective July 1, 2019. Bledsoe has been serving as the superintendent for the St. Johnsbury School District since 2012. "This had been my plan all along, and I had informed the board of that fact," said Bledsoe, as she addressed the board.

ST. JOHNSBURY - Brendan Hughes has assumed the role of ownership to a local mill and distillery business that has been located in Barnet for over fifteen years. What was once known as Dunc's Mill is now known as the St. Johnsbury Distillery, which is set to be moved from Barnet to St. Johnsbury within the next two to five years. For the time being, Brendan and his father, Dan Hughes have kept Dunc's Mill brand Rums on store shelves and at liquor outlets across the Northeast.
ST.JOHNSBURY- It's an event that's been going on for three years now. An event where some of the best artists in the northeast kingdom, and surrounding areas, get to showcase their art pieces.
ST. JOHNSBURY— Eight days after the town of St. Johnsbury turned on the holiday lights at the Downtown Sparkles Event, the town will now be hosting another event, the Victorian Holiday Celebration. "It's an event that happens all throughout town," said Tara Holt, Director of the St. Johnsbury Chamber of Commerce. The Victorian Holiday Celebration is set to take place on December 9th.
ST. JOHNSBURY— Just before 1 am on Thursday an Officer for the St. Johnsbury Police Department was on patrol on Portland Street when he heard possible gun shots. Officer Michael Fuller was on Portland Street and headed east just past the Concord Ave Intersection. "Officer heard what they thought were gun shots," said Chief Timothy Page, of the St. Johnsbury Police Department.
ST. JOHNSBURY— St. Johnsbury Academy is having discussions within their community about a "dangerous game" that sent a student to the hospital on Wednesday. It goes by many different names, like the "Blackout Game" or "Choke Game."
