Danville - The Danville Bears (9-3) take on Oxbow High School (10-6) for their senior night @Danville High School.
The Bears celebrated 5 seniors tonight, but this wasn't some easy senior night game. Oxbow earlier in the season beat the Bears back at their place, so the Bears are looking to avenge themselves in a game. Also, state playoff implications are very important for the team to come out with the win.
All 5 seniors started, and they got to work early, Sebastian Eldred coming in hot, hitting his first 2 shots and a long 3 from Senior Kohl Guinard. Oxbow won the first time for a reason and wasn't going to be easy. A big reason why they won previously was because of Number 0 Johnny Smith, and he got hot early Aswell helping Oxbow go on a 7-0 run to start the second quarter. Oxbow was staying in front, but that's when Landen Fournier hit 3 of his 5 threes and helped the Bears take a slight lead into the break.
Oxbow would take an early lead into the 3rd quarter, but all the momentum changed when I saw Eldred put down his first in-game dunk; the crowd was up on their feet. You just felt this energy, and it stayed for the rest of the game as Big Threes would come from Seniors Sampson Kitonga and Kohl Guinard to take control of the game. Oxbow would fight back, but it wasn't enough for the Bears as they took home a Win 48-42 and avenged an early-season disappointment.
I got to interview 3 seniors, and they had this to say: "The little things helped a lot, and defense kept us in this game." "Once we got our defense up and hitting shots, they couldn't adjust." "We had a very good recovery in the 2nd half."
The Bears (10-3) now look ahead to the State Playoffs to make a run at the title and become Vermont D4 Basketball Back-to-Back State Champions.
