ST.JOHNSBURY- In preparation to produce a third and possible final budget, the St.Johnsbury school board has made more cuts in hopes that this round, the budget will pass. The budget cuts were discussed at the school board meeting last night.
Last round, the budget was cut $180,000 making the budget sit at about $15.97 million. This round, another $45,000 was hashed off making the third budget $15.7 million. The school board announced that along with money cuts, another non-teaching position, some funds for supplies and technology will be removed from the budget. They have also had to make shifts in staff and faculty to save money.
All of these cuts have lowered the budget to 1.4%, which some voters still do not support. Some taxpayers have said they can’t afford any sort of increase, but the parents of the St.Johnsbury school say that the town can’t afford to have another school budget fail.
The board will be holding another informational meeting next monday at the St.Johnsbury school. They encourage all community members to come and give their input about the budget.
Voting will be held May 15th, at the Father Lively Center.
