SAINT JOHNSBURY- The second annual Bowlers Unite Tournament was held this past Sunday to benefit the Green Mountain United Way. The tournament had two more teams then what it had last year. A total of six teams fought hard to contribute and fundraise money for the campaign. Chair Person Catherine Hamilton, Ph. D., Vice President of Planning at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont, announced the goal as $600,000 and the theme as ‘Give ‘Til it Feels Good’.
With six teams the tournament raised two thousand dollars. The campaign will help a lot of different groups in United Way, including help high school students that have dropped out of school. The program is called ReSOURCE and YouthBuild. These programs will help these students to make better choices in their life and to help them choose the right path. The campaign will also try to help people that have have lost their homes and try to help with catastrophes like Tropical Storm Irene to major health issues.
Shaun Donahue of Team Bowling Buffers said, "Im very supportive of the Green Mountian United Way and all the good work they do here in the North East Kingdom. This is one way that we can help support them and the work they do. It would be hard to say if there is one favorite thing but just their presence here in the North East Kingdom and all the different ways they try and support people."
This campaign is almost over. It started in late September and goes until end of this upcoming April. So far the Green Mountain United Way has raised $453,592. They need about 15 thousand more dollars to complete thier campaign of 600,000 dollars.
