Woman Charged After Altercation With Reporter

DisorderlyConductST. JOHNSBURY - A woman living in the Depot Square apartment complex that was searched earlier today by bed bug sniffing dogs has been charged with disorderly conduct after an altercation with a Caledonian-Record reporter.

Thiadosia Phelps, 21, was charged with disorderly conduct after police say she swore at reporter Todd Wellington, who was reportedly in the building - on the corner of Eastern Avenue and Railroad Street - covering the beg bug investigation by the Vermont State Housing Authority.

"He was in there doing a story on bed bugs, and when it was time to leave, she was upset he was in there," said Captain D. Jason Gray of the St. Johnsbury Police Dept., who confirmed the charges Friday afternoon.

"When he was leaving she was swearing at him, throwing profanities - and swearing in public is disorderly conduct," Gray said.

Police said Phelps also threw snowballs at the reporter.

"He was just doing his job, and I guess a 'mouthy, young lady' got in his face. So, it is what it is," said Caledonian-Record publisher Todd Smith.

Phelps is due in court to face the charges on May 12.

Meanwhile, the search for beg bugs was still underway late Friday.
