Dr. Brian Ricca Officially New Superintendent

AOE Approves RiccaST. JOHNSBURY - The highly anticipated superintendent announcement came Monday night as the Chairman of the St. Johnsbury School board announced that Dr. Brian Ricca had accepted the job of Superintendent.

On Friday, the Agency of Education approved the school boards recommendation to make an offer to Ricca for the vacant full-time superintendent position. At the time of the offer, Ricca had been interim superintendent since September of last year.

Ricca was stepping in for former superintendent Ranny Bledsoe, who received a vote of no confidence in early 2018. The board had begun searching for a new superintendent at the beginning of this year, and started off with 12 applicants from in and out of state.

After months of research on the candidates the committee narrowed it down to two prime applicants, Dr. Brian Ricca and Mark Tucker. Mr.Tucker is the current superintendent for the Washington North Supervisory Union in Vermont and has been since July of 2017. Prior to that, Tucker worked as a Special Services Director and was a special educator.
Before becoming Interim Superintendent, Dr. Ricca was Superintendent for the Montpelier schools from July 2011 to June 2018. Before that he was Principal of the Rice Memorial High School in South Burlington.

The St. Johnsbury school board chair, Chris Wenger says the decision to make the offer was based off of the high volume of positive feedback about Ricca that they had received from staff at the various schools and members of the community. Wenger says making the offer is, "a positive step for our district, and that Dr. Ricca will continue to put students first as he leads our district."
Ricca gladly accepted the position and said, "I am proud of the work we have started together, and I really look forward to continue serving the students and families of the St. Johnsbury community." Wenger said even though Dr.Ricca had been serving as interim superintendent, he did not receive any special treatment during the interviewing process.
