Animation Festival

animationfestivalSAINT JOHNSBURY - Residents made their way to the Catamount Arts Center last night for the Second Annual Vermont Animation Festival.

This festival, was formerly known as the Northeast Kingdom Animation Festival, which is held to display works from animators from all across New England.

Thursday night kicked off the three day event. Throughout the festival, not only will the works of artists be on display but also workshops and lectures will be offered. Some of the events in this festival include a twenty-four hour animation jam, a comic strip workshop and gallery openings.

Students from the college attended and talked about the Lyndon Animation program, "I would say that the animation program for Lyndon is a lot broader than people think it covers a lot more than just traditional animation," said Ryan Fitzgerald, a Lyndon Animation Major student.

When it comes to the art of animation itself, Lyndon State College Professor Robby Gilbert says, "Animation has a lot of potential beyond cartoons, we see animation in all kinds of media including interactive media on your phones, so the applications for animation and technology that animation embodies is really important."

Folks that are interested in attending the festival, have the opportunity to not just go to Catamount Arts in Saint Johnsbury but also Lyndon State College in Lyndonville on Saturday, October 15th.

Animation Professor at Lyndon State College, Robby Gilbert had this to say about this year's festival, "so the Vermont Animation Festival is about bringing together animators and artists from around the state of Vermont and New Hampshire a little bit cause it is a small community of animators. It's an opportunity to bring the students together and the faculty together and the community together."

The festival is free and open to the public. Robby Gilbert went on to say that there are many professors from Vermont and New Hampshire giving lectures which allows for plenty of networking opportunities for those interested in Animation.
