Burke – Burke Mountain, one of the most popular winter skiing resorts in the Northeastern Kingdom, has started selling its 2014-2015 winter pass. This is the first year that Burke tried to sell the season pass by quantity than by date.

Burke is offering a variety of discount rates on their season passes, which is part of a new marketing campaign that is letting its customers by their passes sooner. At the beginning of this week, the passes for college students were selling for $199 and $299 for college students; it sold out in three days.

Patrick Bardley, the marketing events coordinator of Q Burke said they wanted to have a steady income for maintenance and get ready for this coming winter. They don’t want to force anybody to purchase anything at a certain time.

Lyndon State College students who bought the college pass have different perspectives about this new marketing campaign. Some of them thought they saved a huge amount of money and can utilize the money on getting better gear. However, some of them have different ideas.

“I think they should choose one price and has unlimited quantity. It is not right. All the college students should be given the same price, no matter how fast they get it,” said Hanna Piette, a Lyndon State College sophomore.

Currently, Burke is selling the college pass for $249 for next 450 purchaser. Although there is a small difference between ticket price of $229 and $249, Bardley said the extra $20 is mostly for retaining their employees.

“We want to pay more for our employees to do more things and to provide a better service. Even if we only make 10 bucks of a student, that’s an extra hour we can provide a service to somebody else,” Bardley said. “We want to keep that income here so we can keep our employees happy and they will stay with us to keep that retention rate as they call it.”

The price of the Season Pass has been increase compared to last year. The Adult Season Pass cost $899, and increase of almost $200. Bardley mentioned with this extra money the customers pays, will bring a better experience.

“We increase the price and we increase our products and quality as well. The every extra dollars we take in, it is just extra better service and quality back to our customers,” said Bardley.

The skiing season is coming shortly and the General Manager Frank Cuccia is looking forward to having a great season.

“Comparing to last year, we are running pretty good. Last year was a good snow year and we are hoping for more of the same this year. We are looking forward to have a great season and sales have been brisk,” Cuccia said.

The Judge Pass works for both the Q Burke and Jay Peak. It sells for $249 has 240 tickets left. When these tickets sold out, the price will goes up to $499. Also, the great deal on student passes of Q Burke only has less than 100 tickets remaining.

The sooner customers get their passes, the better discounts will be offered.
