Peacham- When the Peacham Town Library started to raise money for their renovations, the goal was the reach $145,000. The community efforts helped them reach even more, a staggering $160,000. According the Library's Director, Becky Jenson this is a thrilling time for the library.
"The community has just rallied behind us and... it's been wonderful you know to know that in a short amount of time you can raise the funds or pledges for funds," said Jenson.
The money is going to be used to pay for a new theater and performance space with stage lighting and storage cabinets. Renovations will also include bigger windows and better insulation that will help get the library more grants in the future. The kitchen will also be getting a an update. The library posted on their website that they are looking for offers for their old refrigerator and oven, as well as a Zenith Rear projection TV.
"You know its amazing the support we have and it says something the library isn't just about books its about community and providing resources for the community and I really just excited that we have that kind of support," said Jenson.
The library received over $20,000 from a grant provided by the Vermont Arts Council, as well as a Community Facility Grant from the town.
Peacham's library is planing to start renovations on the fourteenth, but that does not seem to be slowing them down. Tomorrow night they are hosting a game night for all ages at the library with a potluck dinner for everyone. Next week on the twelfth there will be a meeting of the herb club were people can learn about how to use herbs in cooking, medicinal products, and body care.
