Indivisible St. Johnsbury on Community Involvement

With the midterms on the rise, political organizations in local communities around the country prepare to get folks registered to vote and engaged with the political system.

Indivisible St. Johnsbury is working to turn concern into participation. The group focuses on protecting democratic norms and encouraging voting. We spoke with Ann Moore, a co-organizer for the political action group.

“"If you feel as upset as so many of us do about what’s happening... it’s an opportunity to pull you out of that isolation and get you feeling involved... like you can do something."

Indivisible St. Johnsbury is responsible for many of the recent rallies and protests in the community. Creating a safe place for people to spread their message while also adhering to the laws of the town.

“ We do train marshals that we are honest during our events and so they're available, to note, if there's any sort of confrontation happening or if someone is looking faint, we also have medics that are trained to and so these people are identified, I think there's 11 of them, and they have those pennies on to walk around so that people know that if they had concerns, there's somebody to turn to in the midst of a 2000 person rally, that there's somebody there that they could go to if they're not comfortable or if they feel intimidated by something.”

Along with rallies, the group hosts bi-weekly “big tent” community meetings where the current focus is voter education as November approaches
