St. Johnsbury Budget

fire truck correctST. JOHNSBURY - What would happen if a fire broke out on the 4th floor of a building, and the St. Johnsbury ladder truck was not in working order?

Every town depends on their police and fire departments to keep them safe, and having old equipment could hold them back from doing so.

Last nights St. Johnsbury select board meeting was an informal discussion covering a lot of topics including the fire department. "The ladder truck that the fire department has now has been out of service since September. It seems to me that the town would be a much needed piece of equipment to carry out the fire department's mission. " Said Merelise O'Conor The interim town manager.

The main goal of last nights meeting was to discuss the purchase of a new fire truck for the fire department while keeping the tax increase to a minimum. St Johnsbury is attempting to divide one hundred thousand dollars towards the new truck. The meeting was a primarily discussion for a proposed budget that will be decided on town meeting day by the people of St. Johnsbury. Last years budget was a little under $10 million, while this years proposed budget will actually decrease to about $6.6 million.
