LYNDONVILLE - The Fenton Chester Arena hosted a Roller Derby event this past Saturday. The competition brought in skaters and fans from all over.
Roller Derby is a contact sport played by two teams with five members on the track, roller skating in the same direction. Both teams designate a scoring player, known as a Jammer, who then scores points by lapping members of the opposite team. Their points do not count until they have made at least one lap around the track.
The teams that competed against each other were the "Black Ice Brawlers" of the Green Mountain Derby Dames versus the "Borderline Disorders" of the Northeast Kingdom and the second game "Grade A Fancy" of the Green Mountain Derby Dames and the "SufferJets" from Ithica, New York. To many who participate, this is more than just an activity they do in their free time.
"We work really hard at this and we just have a lot of passion for it." Says Sproutta Control of the "Black Ice Brawlers" team.
With all the passion that these players share, it has brought them closer together. You could say they are like a second family.
"They're like my sisters at this point. 85% of the time we love eachother and it's amazing, and 15% of the time want to to kill each other." Lady Business of "Borderline Disorders" sarcastically said.
At the end of the first match, the Black Ice Brawlers came out on top with the victory as well as the SufferJets.
