LYNDON- Lyndon State College hosted a benefit concert for junior and local band member Jake Gregg who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia last spring. Since then he's undergone several surgeries and the local community is continuing to rally behind him. Gregg a member of the band Suncooked has had tremendous support from the community who have continued to hold many fundraisers in his name. Bandmate Ry McDonald said, "To get back to where we were and further you know we were in a really good spot."
The Latest Event held was Skaville which took place Saturday night in Lyndonville.
"Ska is one of Jake's favorite genres and also the school has never really seen a Ska show before and we're getting the opportunity to play with really cool bands," Red Tin Box Garrett Labarge said.
Ska music is when instead of a down beat the guitar usually plays on the upstroke.
Event Coordinator Anjali LaPierre said, "Even though we're not living with this every day, Jake is, and it's important not to forget that."
During the event Greg had a front row view of the stage during a live Skype session.
Skaville may have been a one night fundraiser but the reality is every day.
"It's extremely important to keep raising money for Jake because it is an ongoing battle and he hasn't survived it yet, he's still battling it every single day," event coordinator Ali Main said.
Just over three hundred dollars was raised by the end of the show, all going towards Gregg's recovery.
While Jake has been in the hospital he is continuing to come up with new ideas and is still involved with the band.
