LYNDON - The Vermont Symphony Orchestra's annual fall tour is well under way. This fall's tour marks the Orchestra's 20th anniversary of their musical festivals, where they combine their music with the colorful foliage season around Vermont. The tour started September 20th, and finishes tonight.
The VSO's fall tour features Albert Brouwer on the flute, Janet Polk on the bassoon, and Nancy Dimock on the oboe as they perform the music of Vivaldi, Bach and Mozart. Jaime Laredo returns for his 15th year as the Vermont Symphony Orchestra's music conductor.
"Well generally speaking we perform big master works programs in Burlington and we do five of them a year, but then we do two tours throughout the year, so we do one in the summer... and then in the fall we do a program called the Made in Vermont program and that's what this is. We get to travel all over the state during foliage season and meet people and play in smaller venues like this," said principal oboist Nancy Dimock.
The VSO has travelled to many communities throughout Vermont over the last twenty years, no matter how big or small. The members of the Orchestra enjoy sharing their love for classical music throughout rural communities during the gorgeous fall season.
The Made in Vermont Music festival is co-sponsored by the Vermont State Colleges, as well as Merchant's bank, and receives grants through the Vermont Arts Counsel, the Vermont Community Foundation, and the National Endowment for Arts.
The VSO returns the favor by playing at the Vermont State Colleges. The VSO also made visits to Vergennes, the Derby Line, Bellows Falls, Randolph, and St. Albans this fall. The tour finishes tonight at Castleton State College. The show is slated to start at 7pm.
