Color Run Canceled, H.O.P.E. Looks To New Fundraisers

LYNDON - H.O.P.E.'s Color Run event was canceled yet again due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Store Manager Haley Caplan says there will be other fundraiser events in the coming months.

With COVID cases rising due to the Delta variant surfacing in Vermont, and low interest in comparison to previous years, the Color Run was canceled. This will mark over two and a half years since the last event of its kind in downtown Lyndonville. "We plan on still having it," Caplan says, "it just might be next year."

The annual Color Run has historically been H.O.P.E.'s largest fundraiser, with money raised going directly to the nonprofit's backpack program. Caplan says donations from the community and grants have helped balance the fundraising deficit in the meantime. "We are okay, at least for the beginning of the school year," she told News7/NewsLINC.

"We are planning to have other smaller fundraisers throughout the year, but we are still in the works of planning those," Caplan said, adding that more information would be available by December. Community members are advised to keep an eye out on H.O.P.E.'s website and Facebook page for updates about these other events in the works. H.O.P.E.'s Warm Your Heart event is still scheduled for February 2022.

While the fundraisers do bring in money for H.O.P.E.'s various programs, Caplan says "The best way to support H.O.P.E. is to come in and shop." The store is located on Church Street in Lyndonville, with all proceeds going directly to the nonprofit's "many different services."
