LYNDONVILLE- Walking into Whites Market Saturday, you could not only buy groceries, but purchase homemade iteams all to help a fund for a cure. Five women from Lyndonville came together and baked goodies as well as hold a fifty- fifty raffle and sold home made scarf’s all for the Relay for Life.
The Relay for Life is dear to Lyndonville resident Susan Carr because cancer is known throughout her family. “My mother had cancer, my father had cancer, at the time my sister in-law had cancer. It has become really important for us to find a cure for this disease. Unfortunately since then I have another sister in-law going through treatment. I was diagnosed with cancer on November and I had surgery in December and luckily for me they got it with surgery so I didn't have to go through chemo or radiation, but there is a lot of it around and we really need to put a stop to it,” Carr said.
Family, friends, and residents flowed through White's doors to buy product to help with the research. The tiny hallway saw numerous people hovered over the table picking out some of the homemade treats. One White’s employee made sure she pitched in to help the women out, and The Relay for Life.
“Good food is one reason and because it’s for the cancer society, I had an aunt die of cancer so I’m kind of happy to support the cause.”
Not everyone has signed up yet, but Carr says they tend to have about 15 to 20 people on their team that has helped raise up to 10,000 dollars in the past, and hopes to raise 300 dollars in the bake sale. Carr added “most of it goes right to research, where some of it goes to support locally, but most of it goes to research and incredible strides have been made in the last few years and it needs to keep happening.” Saturday they surpassed their goal by making well over 300 dollars.
The next bake sale fundraiser will be March 29th at the White Market on Main street. The team will be selling homemade favorites and encourage all to stop by and give. The Caladonia County Relay for life will take place in St. Johnsbury from 4p.m. on June 15th to 6:00a.m. on June 16th.
