Lyndon Outing Club Serves Up Some Chili

chili cookoff LYNDON - The Lyndon Outing Club hosted their 5th Annual Chili Cook Off, where people from all over the NEK gathered to taste a wide variety of different chili recipes. The days events included live music, and a skate jam competition, and of course the chili contest.

This year, Deb Robbins has been involved with the chili cook-off for years, "I'm a friend of Tom Anderson's, so he invited me to come. This is our 3rd year of coming, so it's actually my sons chili, he has to work, he's 16. He won last year, so we had to come back.".

Both contests, although modest, also expressed confidence in their recipes over others.

Allison Poulin won 1st place in this years contest with a maple chicken chili recipe, she explains how she wanted her chili to be different, not so typical, "I kind of want to do something unique because last year it seems like all of the chili's were similar, and actually I was told last year mine didnt really stand out.".

Poulin says that while although she did want to win this year's competition, she realizes there is a more important meaning behind the event, "The club really relies on donations and the event really brings more recognition to the club too because a lot of people don't even know it's here, so it helps them out being able to offer low cost ski and snowboard options to people in the area.

The outing club was able to raise $1100 for the event, and all of the proceeds will go towards this winter's ski & snowboard season at the Lyndon Outing Club. The club hopes the success of this years event can help next years event even bigger.
