LYNDON - You may be looking outside your window seeing blue skies amongst vibrant red and yellow trees, but in just a few weeks that will all change, and so will your permitted parking. The transition into winter makes for an even bigger change is on the roadways. Starting November 1st, the town of Lyndonville asks that you do not park your vehicle on any street or highway within the town between 12am and 7am.
Lyndonville Police Chief, Jack Harris, explains, “it’s to make it easier for snow removal, and that’s part of what people don’t get.”
Snow, rain, or clear skies; if your vehicle is parked in town during the directed hours, your car will face the possibility of being towed. The tow company the town uses, Ace’s Towing, speaks for the public saying, “our bottom-line goal is to calm people down, and explain to them that we are just doing our job and it’s just a town ordinance.”
Just in case there is a problem, Ace’s Towing is monitored. “They are equipped with cameras, they video tape all the time, and that not only protects them, but it assists us if there’s any accusations,” says Harris.
If the parking ban is disobeyed and you get towed, you will be fined $15 from the town, $110 from Ace’s Towing, and once the owner of the vehicle is aware that they have been towed, they are subject to pay $50 per day to hold the vehicle.
The ban will last until April 15th. Until then, alternate parking is available at the Asia Restaurant on Depot Street (in the un-paved area), or behind the Municipal building on Park Avenue.
