Lyndon Institute Senior Day

lyndoninstitutesoccerLYNDON - The pitch was perfect Satruday afternoon, as the Lyndon Institute boys varsity soccer team headed into action in what was supposed to be their Senior Day and final home game of their careers against Peoples Academy.

The game which was originally set to be played as their final home game commemorating Senior Day, turned out being their second to last home game, but still the days festivities went on.

The team with eleven seniors will undoubtedly be hard to replace, however there is one senior that head coach Richard McCarthy says he will especially miss.  "Logan Larose, my captain, he's been on the team for four years and this is his second year as captain. He does a terrific job of organizing the guys and running the show, he's a really strong person."

Larose believes that it is the comradery and overall makeup of the team that attributes the teams success.  "It's probably one of the most unique anything, I mean nine nationalities or somewhere around there, guys from all over the place, and it's always cool to see us come together by the end of the season and really make some good friends."

With help from his good friends and teammates, Larose has helped lead Lyndon Institute to a respectable record of 6 wins and 5 losses for the season.

With Lyndon playing their last home game, their hearts were left on the field by the time the final whistle blew.

Senior player Orie Shima opened the scoring with a quick goal in the first half.  "You just have to keep your focus, and the goal keeper was quick off his line so I had to shoot it early, but it was a good pass from my teammates."

The game went into overtime.  Lyndon had a chance to win, however fell just short in the final minutes.

"We really lost our mid-field, when our mid-field is not passing the ball to our guys its pretty hard to do anything effective so I was really not happy with the way we were executing what we were supposed to do," said McCarthy.

However McCarthy had nothing but praise for this group of seniors, who have played under his leadership now for the past four years.  "This group is to be commended, for getting united, staying united, and coming together for a common goal."

Despite the loss, McCarthy hopes that this group of seniors are better prepared for the world because they have been a part of the Lyndon Institute program.  "I'm a little frustrated right now honestly, we gave up a game we should have won. And it's a short season we can't afford to go give games up like that to teams that we should definitely be beating."

A short season it is, with Lyndon Institute sitting at a 6 and 5 record, only two games remain. One game against U-32 on October 18th and the final home game against Stowe, with Lyndon hoping to finish the season strong.
