Lyndon Institute CPR Class

CPRRRLYNDON- For a class at Lyndon Institute, learning how to save a life is all in a days work. Students in the career and technical education allied health program gathered today to learn CPR and other emergency response skills. Lyndon Rescue helped instruct this part of the course.

The training gave students the opportunity to practice CPR firsthand, this is one of the many workshops taught by Lyndon Rescue and other local EMS organizations.

Sarah Houghton, the instructor of the course, says CPR needs to be initiated within six minutes of cardiac arrest.

“The sooner you start CPR the more effective is for the patient and better outcome,” says Houghton.

Lyndon Rescue offers classes that are open to the public on a regular basis.

According to Houghton, response to someone needing medical attention could take up to ten minutes.

“If bystanders can initiate CPR before we get there, the patient will have a better chance at survival,” says Houghton.

The class features a wide variety of participants. According to Houghton the high school students tend to be less comfortable with doing CPR for the first few times.

“Some people are really comfortable with it, they’ve been in the healthcare profession for a long time,” said Houghton.

Houghton also says she also teaches the class to nurses who just have to get recertified.
