LYNDON- Amy Bean is the owner of a hair salon in Lyndonville; Shear Sensations. But cutting hair is not all that Bean does for the community, she also helps those in need.
Bean and her children, and her friend and co-worker Mickey Antonucci and her children were helping out by driving Thanksgiving dinners to those who were home bound, for the non-profit organization; Helping Other People Everyday.
However Bean soon realized that she wanted to do more to help out the community and those in need. With the help of Antonucci, her husband, family and friends; Bean was able to create a Community Thanksgiving dinner. "I realised at that point the need in the community for my husband and I started the free community dinner."
The Darling Inn Mealhouse agreed to let Bean use their dining room for this event, which has grown greatly and is now going on it's fourth year this Thanksgiving holiday. All leftovers from this event go towards the Lyndon Food Shelf, so the donations can continue helping those in need.
Cindy Santaw-Brown; the manager of the Darling Inn Meal site describes Bean as "a very caring, loving person". Bean always seems to be thinking about others according to Brown who says, "I truly believe that Amy and her husband Scott will be thinking about next years dinner as soon as this one is finished."
Bean's nephew Jeffery Cook says that his aunt has always been one to help out those in need. "All the years I've known Amy, she has been a very giving woman. She has volunteered her services no matter what time of the year it may be, even holidays. Amy cares about the community and has shown it throughout the years through many acts of help."
When asked if she will continue to help out in the community, Bean was very quick to give assurance. "Absolutely! We have a dress code at the salon but I allow people to wear jeans on Fridays if they donate money, We usually pick a charity or someone who needs it and we typically donate about two hundred and fifty dollars a month."
Shear Sensations has been in business for 33 years and Bean says that they've spent the last near thirty years donating to different organizations. She estimates that they've donated to 100 different charities in the past ten years.
Bean and her salon continues to help out organizations like H.O.P.E during their Thanksgiving dinner drive and their Peanut Butter and Jelly Contest.
