Scarecrow Theft

ScarecrowTheftLYNDONVILLE – 14 scarecrows were placed around Lyndonville this past Monday in celebration of the fall season. The project brings together donations of clothing from people all over town who wish to help dress the town up before winter returns. The project, however, has faced some fiery opposition over the past few nights.

Three of the scarecrows have gone missing over the last three days, one of which was set on fire right in front of the Lyndonville fire department. The Lyndonville fire department confirmed that a 911 call was placed at around 9:43 last night. The fire was then put out, and no damages other then the scarecrow, were sustained. So far, there is no information about how the fire may have been started, but assistant town manager and project coordinator, Michele Maccalous, is remaining hopeful that they will find a lead.

Maccalous said: “We’re hoping maybe the fire department had a camera up there.” She also added that they’ve been in touch with the police regarding the incident.

Another scarecrow, named Purple Petunia stood on the corner of back center road and center street, and was taken right out of the ground she stood in.

The Scarecrow Project was inspired by a similar project that happens in Shelbourne every year which has 55 scarecrows.
