LYNDON - The second annual H.O.P.E. Color Run kicked off this Saturday in Lyndon and raised over a record amount of money in the process.
All of the proceeds of the run that were raised during the 5k will go toward H.O.P.E's backpack program. The backpack program exists to give low-income children meals to eat over the weekend by giving them a backpack full of food on Friday, so no kid will go hungry.
The run broke a few personal records this year, one being the amount raised and the other being the number of people who registered for it.
During the weeks before the race 150 people had already registered to run the 5k, and on the day of over 200 participants took on the technicolor race with unbridled enthusiasm.
Before the race, Organizer Julianne Corcoran said, "It's really good. I'm so excited. I can's wait for people to show up, this is our second year so it should be even bigger than last year."
500 pounds of colored dye was purchased for race day, coating racers in shades of blue, yellow, pink and green.
Participant Jonathan Ross said, "Every year I plan not to get covered and every year I do get covered."
The event, that took 5 months of planning, raked in over $5,000 this year.
