LYNDON-- It was only 10 years ago when students had to take a computer class to learn how to use technology. Now schools are incorporating technology into all of their classes.
For the last 3 years the Lyndon Town School has been using Mac Air books, iPads, and desk top computers.
"As far as student airs are concerned, 5 through 8 have them we have about 200 in the building," Jen Reeve, the technology integrator, said. "We have about 112 iPads. And in desk tops we have probably about 40, 40 to 45 in the building."
The school has a program called 1 to 1 initiative that gives each student through the 5th and 8th grade a Mac Air book that they use throughout their year at the school, that they don't have to share. This year was the first year that the 4th grade was brought into the 1 to 1 program, they are using iPads though.
The students in the school use their iPads and computers for everything from writing stories and reading, to math learning games, to art projects. Teachers are even using iPads in gym class to see how the students are doing in activities.
3rd grade teacher, Emily Cobb, believes that one of the important things that the school needs to improve on is teaching the teachers how to use the technology.
"I think it's important that teachers get more and more training in technology," Cobb said. "I think that's one thing that's lacking. Just them being able to know more about getting it into the field."
It isn't just the Lyndon Town School that incorporates technology into their classrooms, but Burke School, Millers Run School, Barnet Elementary School, Lyndon Institute, and St Johnsbury Academy.
