LYNDONVILLE -The seventh annual kingdom challenge concluded this weekend. The challenge offers a 5K, a half marathon, and a half marathon relay. The 5k is a challenging three mile race that runs through typical Vermont terrain.
The relay is for teams of two, and happens on the same course of the half marathon. One runner takes a shuttle to the second leg, each leg about 6.5 miles long, and then the second runner takes the shuttle back.
All together the courses run across four covered bridges, multiple hills, and plenty of scenic back roads.
Steven Dunn and Meghan Paugh were the winners of the 2014 relay race. They ran the race as Team BamTrain and finished in an hour and 28:41 minutes. It was their first time running together, but the two plan on doing it again. “I’ve never won a race before,” admitted Dunn “so it seemed like the only chance for me to win a race was attached to my partner.”
His partner had just as much fun with the race as her counterpart “It was really great to see my partner at the line and flap hands in real relay style.” said Paugh. Together the two mastered the seven mile course to claim their victory.
Kevin Stanton of Monro, NH won the 5k with a a time of 5.52 minutes, and Carl Hartford, from Wilmington MA, concurred the half marathon with a total time of 5.47 minutes.
