Brush Fires Keep Fire Departments Busy

brush firesNORTHEAST KINGDOM-While the Northeast Kingdom may have gotten a lot of water last week temperatures have been high throughout the week making it very dry.

Monday evening a large brush fire broke out behind Dahlberg Road in St. Johnsbury. The fire was so large that flames could be seen from Danville.

Nine one one calls came in from all over St. Johnsbury which created confusion about the location. Neighbors who were the first on seen felt officials were slow to respond.

"I called 911, they said that they had gotten other reports, they said it was ok. And I said its not ok it's headed towards my neighbors house, several acres of fire, and they said it's near the academy right? and I said no, its not near the academy, it's up on Dalhberg Road," neighbor Steve Sandvil said.

Responders had a hard time reaching the flames because of muddy road conditions but were able to get the flames out before eight o'clock.

Another brush fire broke out just before one o'clock in Lyndon and began to spread quickly. The fire started approximately three miles from the LynneBurke Motel and spread to around ten acres in size.

Sutton, East Burke, West Burke, Lyndonville, Newark, Sheffield-Wheelock, Waterford and all area "Wild Land" crews were called to the scene near forty-eight Woodbury Lane in Lyndon. Calex and Lyndon Rescue were on scene with a paramedic for a fire fighter who inhaled too much smoke.

No home were effected during the blaze and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
