VERMONT- Landowners may be given yet another option regarding the access to their land to fishers, trappers and even hunters. The new ruling would allow property owners to post signs that require hunters, fishers and trappers to seek permission prior to their intended action. The current option for landowners is to post signs whether or not they want people to go about these desired hobbies.
If the change is approved by the state, the Department of Fish and Wildlife would provide the landowners with new signs for a small fee.
Along with new signs, huntsmen and fishermen would have access to more land than what they are currently allowed.
Cedric Alexander, a wildlife biologist, thinks it is vital that Vermonters have as much land to hunt on as possible. Alexander went on to say "The difficulty in people trying to hunt and put this excellent protein on their family's dinner tables is impacted when you run into posted signs."
If this new ruling goes through, there will not be liability changes for the property owners. The residents who own the land are not required to inspect their land nor any injuries by the visitor of the property.
