Winter Puts a Damper on Spring Fever

think springNortheast Kingdom - At 12:57 p.m. today the seasons officially changed, at least on the calendar. Today marked the first day of spring, but when you look around you see that spring has yet to sprung.

People associate spring with green grass and budding flowers, but with more than a foot of snow currently on the ground there doesn't seem to be much budding green just yet.

While most may look at this in a depressing matter, many flower shops are taking an optimistic approach towards their businesses.

Sara Dwyer, co-owner of Daisy Daze in Lyndon looked at this long winter as a positive for business. "It helps for us, people get down in the dumps and depressed about the fact you don't have tulips or daffodils outside so they come in and buy them"

The same can be said for flower shops across the town border in St. Johnsbury. Jessie Toney, manager of All About Flowers, looked at how this winter has effected business. "It has effected business in a good way" further saying that people come in to buy those bunches of "all the spring flowers that haven't been able to pop up yet."

Today also marked the Equinox, meaning we will have longer daylight than darkness everyday until the Sumer Solstice on June 21st.
