Got tires?

tire thumbnailVERMONTFor 9 years now, Vermonters have been collecting and donating old tires to the state wide program Wheels for Warmth. Initiated by Lieutentant Governor Phil Scott, the program has collected over 25,000 tires. However, they must undergo a state inspection prior to resale.

The program has 3 main goals; the first being to raise funds for emergency fuel services, the second giving vermonters fixed incomes and limited resource access of used tires at a reasonable price, and lastly, to prevent people from leaving used tires on the side of the road and or river.

According to www.wheelsforwarmth.com, since 2005 they have collected and resold around 10,000 inspection passing tires, recycled close to 15,000, and raised over $175,000 for emergency fuel services. If your looking to drop off any tires you have laying around, there are 7 locations around the state where you can do so. Collections continue through October 24th from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Along with the WFW drop-off locations, Dubois Construction is taking donations on October 24th and 25th from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm in Montpeiler and Casella Waste Management of Williston will to be accepting from 3:00 pm to 7:00pm as well.

After all funds are added up, including profits of resale, disposal fees and community contributions, they directly go to the Central Vermont Community Action Council and Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity emergency fuel programs.
