U.S. Government Shutdown Woes

capitol hillVERMONT- Senator Bernie Sanders spoke on the senate floor Wednesday Afternoon and pleaded to the floor that his fellow Senators and House Representatives' needed to come together as one and find some common ground to pass a budget bill to take the Government out of a shutdown and a potential default on its loans.

"People's confidence in the government has been shuttered, and the kids in Vermont are now looking at the US Government as a joke," said Sanders. "Maybe at some point they were considering running and now they don't want to do so, and that is very sad."

There is currently a bipartisan bill that has been passed by the Senate to end the shutdown, but it is up to a House controlled by the GOP that will decide the ultimate fate of the bill.

Martha Feltus, a Republican in the Vermont House of Representatives in Caledonia's fourth district, was asked about the shutdown and when it could potentially affect Vermonters.

"Most of the state agencies felt that Vermont would be okay for another couple of weeks," said Feltus. "However, if it stretched into November when they expect additional payments from the Federal Government, there could possibly be problems"

If the Senate and House come to an agreement either today or in the immediate future, this would all be just hearsay and irreversible damage would be avoided.
