Down & Dirty

DownDirtyST. JOHNSBURY - Over the guard rail of 91 and through the dust you might be able to catch a glimpse of Jake Mudge, but odds are you will hear him first. Over the past 10 years or so Mudge and his family has expanded their hobby of motocross into a 1.2 mile course in their field.

"I've been riding for 13 years," said Mudge who got into racing through his father," my dad used to race when he was a kid, he got me into it when I was 11 years old and I always enjoyed it way more than football or basketball, so I stuck write with it." Mudge now races on weekends gaining sponsorship from the family business, 5 Star Autobody, and  partially credits to his passion to the garage atmosphere. "Its just where I found my niche, something I found I was good ast and the more I did it the better I got."

As the hobby has grown so has the course, which has taken 10 years to develop. "We started just riding around in a circle, and breaking up a little dirt, and before you know it we had a lay out and added on the that. Built a jump here, built a jump there, little by little its grown to about 1.2 miles."

Motocross has come off the course and into the rest of Mudge's life. "I race on the weekends, watch videos on YouTube, I can't get enough of it to be honest."
