Earlier this month, NEK Broadband announced it was awarded federal funding to expand high-speed internet in areas in need.
BEAD, or Broadband Equity Access and Deployment, is a federal program for ensuring that high-speed internet is accessible to all.
The NEK region can expect to see 100/100 speeds in areas that previously did not get the attention required during COVID.
NEK Broadband along with Senator Welch made their goals clear and why it was important to create a more equitable state in terms of high-speed internet access.
It was awarded 93 million dollars of which will expand 1,400 miles of fiber optic network and aid underserved areas, including 72 towns across the NEK and central Vermont regions.
Per the requirements of the funding, construction should be complete by roughly 2030.
