Kingdom Corn

SUTTON - While there are many fun activities here in the Northeast Kingdom, there seems to be no shortage of corn mazes. Since The Great Vermont Corn Maze is all sold out for the season, It's been bringing visitors to a new location in Sutton Vermont.

Marci and Ryan Simpson own a dairy farm in Sutton Vermont and have over seven hundred forty cows. The two have over seven hundred acres of land. The pair had been looking to expand their farm into a corn maze at the start of March 2021. "So we have been to a couple corn mazes before, we did a lot of research. I looked at a lot of other corn maze websites. Thinking about different ideas on what we wanted to offer," Marci Simpson explained.

The two had some land in East Burke and built a bike maze to start off with, and then decided to try a corn maze. Within two months the Kingdom Corn Maze was already being planned out. With their first season, over 300 people came each weekend. The whole project cost about five thousand dollars, and the couple had designers come to the land and map out the grounds. With planning the new layout, the Kingdom Corn Maze tried to be a little different from other corn mazes in the area. Offering pumpkins, their mountain views, kid activities with the animals, tractor trail rides, and even some fun games.

Marci says the most interesting thing about this new experience for her, is the people she meets. "So it's always interesting to ask them where they are from, and how they heard about us. Because we had people from New Jersey that came last weekend who were visiting family up in Newport. There's a lot of different visitors around, some people just come for air bnb's. We've had a lot of mountain bikers that are visiting the area," Simpson said.

People visiting the corn maze said it was everything they expected it to be, lots of fun and plenty to do. "Friends who've been here said, because I mentioned the other corn maze was all sold out. They said ''oh you got to go try the one in Sutton. I said, ''Oh okay let's go do that," Biker Deb Harrigan said. Dwight Brunette and his family came out to the corn maze to celebrate his daughter's Birthday. He said the corn maze was even a little challenging. "You know even the short one is a good challenge because you go back and forth in there. You get dead ends, you get u-turns, you get it all inside that corn maze I'm telling you," Brunette explained.

Kingdom Corn Mazes season ends in mid-October. Anyone interested in buying tickets can visit their website. The Simpsons are not positive about what they are going to do with leftover produce. Marci shares she's been thinking about giving pumpkins to schools, and give produce to some food shelves.
