Green Up Day has been an annual event for forty-six years. Every year people sign up to get special Green Up Day bags from their town clerk's office and then they go out onto the roads the pick up the trash left by others. Bags can be left behind on the side of the road to be picked up by trucks, but that is no longer the cases in all the towns of Vermont.

According to the Lyndon Town Clerks office they are no longer picking up the bags on the side of the road, however they do request that they bring them back the town municipal billing where there will be a dumpster for all the trash collected though out the day. This is because in the past there was a person who was in charge of arranging all the parts of Green Up Day in Lyndon, but as of now the job is vacant.

Over in Saint Johnsbury a local business is lending a helping hand to the cases. At Saint J Subaru people can pick up bags like the ones at the town clerk's office, and if you do not want to leave your bags on the side of the road they will by taking bags that have been filled. Saint J Subaru has been involved with Green Up Day for over 5 years.

"We want to take in a part of our community and make sure it is beautiful as it should be," said Karla Degreenia of Saint J Subaru.

The business will be hosting a cookout the day of the event to celebrate people coming together and helping to make a greener state. That will be around lunch time. It is free to all the volunteers that worked to pick up the trash and brought it to them.

People can sign up and get their bags ahead of time during the week, or can sign up the day of. To find out how to participate and where to sign up for your town you can go to the Green Up Vermont website.
