Biodiesel Company Expands

Bio DieselHAVERHILL – A two million dollar expansion will be taking place in Haverhill at a eco-friendly energy production plant.

The White Mountain Biodiesel Company just received approval from the zoning board to build on the plot of land behind their current facility. They hope to triple their production to around 15 million gallons a year.

“We kind of have a three phase plan for the expansion,” explains Sales Manager Stefan Kehsel. “We want to pour the floor, stand all our tanks up, and have all my chemical source tanks in there and then use them this winter. Then next summer, I will have all the extra room for storage.

The expansion will allow the company to make more biodiesel because they will have more space for equipment, and more room to store it. Office Accounting Manager Holly Russeau says that the expansion is already underway.

“Three of the new tanks were just delivered yesterday, with ten more on the way, and our contractor will be here next week,” informs Russeau.

The company’s product is beneficial for the environment. They take used cooking oil and turn it into biodiesel and glycerine. “We’re renewing used cooking oil, which otherwise would be dumped into the earth,” says Russeau. “The fuel can run diesel equipment vehicles and home heating oil. It gives off less of a carbon footprint, and it burns cleaner and longer.”

With the current start coming out of the owners pockets, the company plans to apply for grants from the United States Department of Agriculture to fund the rest of the project. The company hopes to have the expansion complete within a year.
