Road Work Ahead

workzonesafteyAROUND THE NEK- Warms spells and rainy days mean one thing in Vermont... Spring is near. With Spring on the way, you can also expect a rise in construction crews on the roads.

After a treacherous winter, crews are busy patching pot holes and taking care of street business that could not be tended to during the snowy months.

The National Work Zone Safety Memorial which is displayed in Montpelier, recognizes the more than 1,400 workers who have been killed on roadways throughout the country.

Of those fourteen, three have been from Vermont. Paul Libercent Jr., killed in 1994, Zach Brown killed in 2010, and Robert Stanhope, killed in 2014.

In an attempt to keep roadside worker fatalities low, Green Mountain Flagging Manager says "I think it's very important, the more their aware of the construction going on and what to expect, the better their able to be prepared when they come into a zone. It's keeping it in the back of their mind that theirs people out there."

Advice that Russell gives to drivers while in work zones... Slow down, Pay attention, and stay off their phones.
