PEACHAM - The Peacham Community Housing Projects takes it to the basketball court for a three on three, four week league as a fun way to fundraise.
This isnt the first time that the organization has tried to raise funds by playing basketball, but it is the first attempt in a league setting.
The league idea progressed from originally being a one night tournament two years ago.
Each team was asked to donate $120 as their buy in into the league.
According to Ross MacDonald, Presdident of the Peacham Comminuty Housing Board, they plan on playing with the idea until they get it right, "Last year, we were wondering, 'Should we just do a Danville-Peacham direc. competition or try to do this three on three again?' So, we keep trying different formats, difference schedules, and kinda see what people enjoy most."
The PCH is an non-profit organization that is dedicated to senior housing and services. One of the projects that funding is vital for is their 6 unit assisted living house that is currently being occupied by 8 residents.
Danville resident Richie Benoit saw the opportunity to have fun for a good cause, "We were asked to come play three on three basketball-- a bunch of us guys from Danville really enjoy playing basketball. It also supports the Peacham Community Housing, so, it's kind of a win win for us."
According to the Peacham Community Housing website, the maintenance and capital improvements that are required exceed the annual revenues. The fundraising efforts result in all of the funding that goes towards these projects.
While designing the way that the league would play out, Joe Barbeiri forsaw who would sign up, "Our idea was maybe we can get interest from not only the locals, but also from the surrounding communities. We're hoping to get a couple of teams from Danville as well."
Although only four teams signed up this year, the hope is to grow into something much larger.
