High Winds Means No Fun

qburkeclosedBURKE - Due to high winds, Q Burke Mountain was forced to close down a portion of the mountain today, including one of their chair lifts. With gusts reaching as high as 41 miles per hour and a consistent wind from the west, Q Burke officials felt it was obligated.

"It's nature. It's going to happen, we're in New England,"said Event Coordinator Patrick Bradley. "This is something we usually see a few times a year that you have to close down due to wind."

The biggest issue that occurs with high winds is when the chair swings.

"If you have really high winds and people are riding [the lifts]," Bradley said. "The extra added weight of just one person sitting in a chair will sometimes really swing the chair into the [lift] tower[s]."

As of 11:30 this morning, lifts did open back up for skiers and riders.
