Governor's Race--Still Unknown

for governorVERMONT- Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott Milne is not asking for a recount of election ballots.

The state canvassing committee counted election results and says that the official results show that Democratic Governor Peter Shumlin had 89,509 votes and Republican challenger Scott Milne had only 87, 075 votes. Governor Shumlin only beat Milne by 2,434 votes.

Milne had planned on asking for a recount, only if the offical numbers were not close to the unoffical results. He said, "the expense of a recount is not warranted, and it is unlikely that such an exercise would put me ahead of Peter. It is extremely unlikey, almost unfathomable, that a recount would put either canadidate above the 50% mark."

To recount all 193,000 ballots, it would cost taxpayers between $60,000 and $80,000, and that is something he does not want to do. Milne has stated that "it just seems like a waste of time."

Because none of the candidates running for Governor received more than 50% of the votes, Legislature will cast their votes in January. The lawmakers will vote between Governor Peter Shumlin, Scott Milne, or Dan Feliciano. Feliciano only received a little over four percent of the votes.

Milne has decided it is not likely that he will conced.

Milne plans to address the public next week regarding the Legislature's Constitutional duty in January.
