youthhockeypictureLYNDON- The first offical Lyndon Area Youth Hockey Association practice took place last night at the Fenton Chester Arena.

Many youth hockey programs have seen declining numbers in participants because of entry costs. But LAYHA's numbers are staying at a steady rate.

This year the program includes children from ages four to thirteen, and has just over 100 players.

For younger children the cost of the program is $75 for half of a year. For older children the cost raises up to $500, but the association's president, Michelle Matteis, says there are ways to help families pay for that cost.

She says that there is a Hardship Committee which helps families who cannot afford the cost of the program.  A payment plan is also available that you can set up, as a parent, in order to pay the dues throughout the year instead of all at once.

Matteis also said "I want to help the program out, keep it going."

The association has many fundraisers throughout the year but their biggest one is the auction they hold in the spring. Right now the program is holding a wreath fundraiser.

The youth hockey season runs from the middle of October until the spring.
