LYNDON – Northern Vermont Physical Therapy and Shear Sensations are once again at the head of a fundraiser for a great cause. The Peanut Butter and Jelly Challenge started off the beginning of October, lending a helping hand to children in need, yesterday.
The Peanut Butter and Jelly Challenge works towards raising awareness for child hunger and gives the community a chance to help make a difference. Anyone wishing to take part in this fundraiser can swing by Northern Vermont Physical Therapy or Shear Sensations to drop jars of peanut butter and jelly off in the bins they have set up at their businesses.
All of the collected jars go to the Backpack Program at H.O.P.E. HOPE stands for Helping Other People Everyday. It is a small, private, nonprofit business in Lyndonville that helps families and individuals with everyday needs.
The Backpack Program reaches out to help children who are suspected of not being fed throughout the weekend. Each child that participates in this program is given a backpack that is filled with microwavable foods and nutrients that can get them through the weekend.
Last year, Shear Sensations and Northern Vermont Physical Therapy was able to raise about 1,500 jars of peanut butter and jelly combined. Amanda Hussey, the Vice President of public relations with Northern Vermont Physical Therapy, says that she hopes they are able to top that number this year. Amy Bona, an employee at Shear Sensations said this is the third year that they have participated in this challenge. " It is a great community activity and it's nice to see everybody come together for such a great cause."
The Peanut Butter and Jelly Challenge will be collecting jars until October 31st.
